The Advantages and Disadvantages of Computers to Students

Computers are used in education for a variety of purposes. Students benefit from using them as tools and resources for gathering information.

Computers have become so much a part of our every day lives that education can no longer keep the interest of those who use computers for entertainment or information outside of school. Students of all ages use computers for looking up research materials, producing media and multi-media projects and presentations, as well as classic tasks such as word processing. There are advantages and disadvantages of computers to students. Some advantages are:

1. The students can communicate to other people people especially when there is an internet access.

2. Students can be interactive learners with computers. They may read, do activities, play educational games and learn. They can ask for help from others or develop pen pals from other countries, thus learning about other cultures. They may be able to virtually visit places that they would otherwise never have the chance to visit.

3.   Computers make life easier - mainly people benefit from it in the sense that it makes doing things a lot easier.

4.  One is having the internet than to search in the books at the library which takes ages.

5.  Another is connecting with friends in the shortest period of waiting time.

6. Having your reports printed out than writing it. [very beneficial for those with bad hand writing like me!]

7.  Computer has programs that help encoding and computing data a lot easier and faster.

The disadvantages do exist, though. Students must be educated about the dangers that exist.  Children need to be guided about the good that computers can do and led to use computers in a way that can be productive. Some of the disadvantages are:

1. scams

2. Children are not going out as much and don't know how to interact with other people.

2. The emissions that computers make.

3.  Bad posture from sitting too long at a desk.

4.  Repetitive strain injuries and the fact that most organisations expect everyone to own a computer.

5.   viruses and spyware

6.  Children always depend on it.

7.  Some get addicted in using it.

8. A man who had habitually sit in front of a computer develop health problems like back aches and eye damage.

9. Last, the disadvantage of computers is that they are not available to all children's educations. This will mean that later, there is an imbalance in the amount of computer knowledge and there will be a group of adults who are scared of computers or are ignorant about the possibilities because they were never exposed to them.

Computers benefit students by providing quick access to information and skill sets that might take much longer to acquire using traditional methods. Students do not need to be ignorant of their areas of strength or needed improvement with easy access to grades and achievement information.
